Frieda's 52 Journal Quilts

I am smiling because the beautiful journal quilt in the center, made by my dear friend Frieda Oxenham as part of her 52 Journals exhibit, is hanging on the wall of my studio in Florida!

I went to visit Frieda in Scotland last week and attended the Gallery Talk for her exhibit at the Peebles Museum on September 20th. While there I had the chance to look closely at all Frieda's 52 Journal quilts in person. What a remarkable experience! I had seen them all online, but to view them in person was another thing altogether. After taking many photographs and looking at all of her journal quilts, I decided I wanted to purchase one of them. I seriously considered this one below for it's color and beautiful stitching . . .

. . . but I kept returning to this one below. It really spoke to me.

Shelter

Read more about this journal quilt on Frieda's Blog! I am lucky to have a number of fabric and other mixed media pieces made by Frieda, as we have been corresponding & sharing art for 10 years. About a year and a half ago, after we had moved to our new home on the Braden River, Frieda sent me this beautiful 21" square quilt with a river theme. See below.

You can read more about it on her  original blog post in 2012, here. This new Journal Quilt, Shelter and the river quilt prompted me to "re-boot" the wall of inspiration behind the desk in my studio. Since our Kitchen renovations this past winter, the 21" square river quilt had been without a permanent home. Where it used to hang in the living area had been turned into a closet! So this is what I have worked out so far, in my studio:

I am quite happy with this new arrangement!
