moleskine love ❤

Red adding a poem / wish for Steve & me in my moleskine journal

More happy pages from my moleskine journal . . . the small size: 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" makes it so easy!! The new pages start with something wonderful, a collaborative effort with a special friend. His name is Sam Wade Sears, or "Red" as we call him; a real renaissance man. He has had so many experiences and amazing stories to tell! He helped build the Grand Coolie Dam as a 17 year old youth and was a merchant seaman during World War II, in both the Pacific and Atlantic. He marched with Dr. Martin Luther King!

Red is a friend of Steve’s . . . He and his wife ran a charter sailboat business in St. Thomas with a 52' Gulf Star Sailboat - among many other things!  When Red comes by to visit (and go out in a boat or two) I try to make sure to see him. He told us he was coming by last Tuesday, so Steve ferried me over in our new Skiff. I brought my moleskine journal specifically to share with Red. While he was looking it over, Steve suggested I ask Red if he would write something in my journal. :o) Red agreed and wrote a wish for us . . . half in Croatian (he knows many languages) and half in English. Later I added a photo I that took of him while he was writing and a bit of collage to the page.

Red told me the part he wrote in Croatian means something like "the glass is broken and there is no more wine" . . . then in English he wrote, "seek more wine and another cup" - a wish for Steve & Lenna. It is a blessing for us. ❤

This is how I finished the page . . .

The page had a bit of a background that seeped through from the previous page. The background  is StencilGirl's Corrugated Lines Stencil with a bit of Espresso Color Wash.

The music notes are Jim Holtz tissue paper, added to the page with gel medium. I protected Red's writing with gel medium too. Steve & I like how it softened it.

Steve & Red brought me back home, then took a little boat trip in our new boat!

There's one more simple spread, the set of pages before the Red/Lenna collaboration. The background here is StencilGirl's Corrugated Lines Stencil - I used  a bit of Espresso Color Wash to spray on top of this stencil, then did some simple collage with leftover papers and tags from packaging . . .  plus added a favorite Claudia Rose Stamp - follow your heart.

a bit of yellow was sprayed on after I used the stencil

My little journal is plumping up!!!

Sooner or later we all discover that the important moments in life are not the advertised ones, not the birthdays, the graduations, the weddings, not the great goals achieved. The real milestones are less prepossessing. They come to the door of memory unannounced, stray dogs that amble in, sniff around a bit and simply never leave. Our lives are measured by these.
