A new painting

We have been moving furniture around so I could easily make more use of our dining room table . . . for art! When we swapped rooms, there ended up being a big empty space above the TV. None of our other artwork seemed right for this space, so I told Steve I needed to purchase a long rectangular canvas to go above it. I don't know what possessed me, but I just felt like painting it myself. Here are a few pictures. This is how the painting started, with a few squirts of paint!

I used various brushes to smooth the paint across the canvas, then used a combing tool. More paint was added as I went. I also used a small texture stamp on some of the edges.

All the paint has been added at this point. I asked Steve if he might want to collaborate . . . but to tell you the truth he loved this painting so much he did not want me even add anything! Below is the painting hung in place on the wall. The only thing I decided to add was three strokes of oil pastels.

I really had fun doing this! I also created it very quickly. We went to Michael's and I bought the canvas, came home, Steve went out and by the time he returned, it was done! I took a bit of a break from my usual art making during the holidays and it just felt great to do this, especially on New Years day!

This being human is a guest house. Every morning is a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all. Treat each guest honorably. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.
