52 weeks of creativity - my 1st quilt

Jan 29 - I’m noticing a pattern . . . I’m not able to do everything I want to every week! When I decided to look at my creative projects on a weekly basis instead of working on a 365 project for the year, I set the following intentions: “I intend to draw something every week”…“intend to take photographs every week”…“intend to sew something every week: finish Dallas’ quilt, continue ‘Stitch meditations’, and create/sew an article of clothing!“…My final weekly intention for each of these 52 weeks is: “to do at least one of the following things every week: collage, work in altered books, do art journaling, play with paint, paper, printing and rubber stamping.”

  • I definitely feel that I got a lot done creatively, but not hitting all my goals! It has me keeping them in mind and noticing when I don’t follow through with my intentions. The first couple of weeks I didn’t work on the large quilt for my son . . . but because I announced my goal to work on it, that’s what pushed me to get started on it again. I’m happy I have made progress on it!

This shares the pin-basting of the quilt top, batting and backing fabric I did this past week.

It was difficult to squish the large, queen size quilt sandwich under my little machine, but I managed! I decided I wanted to try machine quilting instead of hand quilting…. My stitching lines for the quilting could be a lot straighter, but it’s my first time! I don’t think Dallas will mind :0) .

The other sewing I did this week was 3 Stitch meditations, inspired by Liz Kettle. I don’t tend to do these every day now, but at least 3 times a week. I still enjoy the stitching, the quietness & the design part, a lot!

I am hosting a “Stitchie” art swap and that kept me hopping this week as all entries are due in my hands Feb. 1st. The last week or 2 is usually a big push for participants to send in their art so it will be included. Below are some of the pieces I received, photographed and uploaded to the Creative Swaps blog.

I did not do any mixed media work this week! (I imagine I will soon!!)

But I continue to enjoy the creative expression of taking photographs.

That’s it for Jan 22-28. I hope you are well!

When you have surrendered to the flow of the process, when you let go of your control and need to be perfect, when you just show up to the creative call - it becomes unclear whether you are creating the journey or whether the journey … is creating you.
