update - The Quilt is finished!

The Quilt label - printed on prepared muslin with my ink jet printer!

Sorry I have not posted for over a month! I’m sure you’ll understand, especially because of the arrival of the 2019 novel Coronavirus. Before it had really hit here, I was busy finishing the quilt I was making for my son, Dallas . . . It was time to wrap it up, sew the edges with seam binding and send it off to him! A year ago -March 2019, I started cutting patchwork squares from his old shirts to make him the quilt we had talked about. I worked on this project off and on, learning how to quilt as I went. I finished making it one year later and sent it to Dallas & his family on 3/16/2020. I was so pleased to have created this quilt, and more importantly, to have finished it!

My very first quilt!

Dallas and Liz saw the quilt ‘almost done’ when they visited in February with our granddaughter. So, it was not a surprise really, when they received it. But I must say, they were both so encouraging of my efforts during the creation of this quilt. I shared photos with them via my Instagram account and despite my first time quilting mistakes . . . . they tell me they LOVE it. ❤

I learned so much and now I want to continue making quilts!

- how cool is that?

#91 Stitch meditation (4” x 4”)

#97

Besides the quilt, I have continued to make little 4 x 4 Stitch meditations and have created One Hundred of them! The next step I want to take is to put these 100 Stitchies together in one small wall hanging. I will keep you posted.

I have decided NOT to continue posting once a week on “52 weeks of creativity” going forward. For the past two years I have completed a 365 ‘creative things’ project each year. The 2018 project and the 2019 project are linked there, go to those pages if you want to peek at what I created! I was a bit weary of cataloging all 365 pieces of art for each year and thought perhaps 52 weeks of creativity would work better. Yes, there was less individual cataloging, but still too many photos to put into a weekly post! So instead, I will try to get back here on a regular basis and post what’s important.

Right now what’s most important to us is staying home in self isolation/ quarantine and staying safe by not interacting with others close up. Avoid possibly spreading this killer virus around by not coming in contact with someone who may not even know they have it. Trying to stop the virus from continuing to climb up in numbers of cases and more sadly, deaths. We keep sane by simply getting outside and walking (keeping a safe distance from anyone we see) or, going out in our boat on the river, just the 2 of us. Sitting in the backyard enjoying the sunshine, with the birds singing, and the plants growing, these things make us feel very lucky. We’re taking a deep breath and know we are doing what we need to. We’ve been lucky to so far to have been able to order groceries and also drop some off for my mom. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we can beat the virus in this way and help to flatten the curve of it for everyone. Fortunately creative work certainly helps to distract from any worries, so I have been doing a bit of art journaling too.

A very good thing to do, especially now. These pages are from free lessons offered by Everything Art UK - “Soothe Me Art Journal” and Balzer Designs - “The Two Week Art Journal”.

I will leave you with a calm image from one of our walks and one from the river . . . .

On the Braden river . . .

Dare to begin! He who postpones living rightly is like the rustic who waits for the river to run out before he crosses.
